Original data were hand-drawn over DOT topographic quadrangle sections and filed with local governments. Each identified habitat has an accompanying text narrative describing the living resources values leading to designation as a Significant Coastal Fish and Wildlife; web links to these narratives are included in the attribute table of this dataset. Digital data set (version 1.1) was previewed by NYS DEC Habitat Inventory Unit and subsequently corrected as per their recommendations. The original digital version of the SCFWHs, Version 1.2, has been replaced with this current version 2.0. Version 2.0 includes changes/updates to the Peconic estuary (2002), north shore of Long Island (2005), the south shore of Long Island (2008), and the Hudson River (2012). Some polygons were hand digitized using USGS and DOT Topo Quads and NOAA Navigational charts as base maps and checked against scanned registered DOT Planimetric Quads. Hand digitized polygons had a Root Mean Square error values ranging from 0.003 - 0.000. Repeatedly checked by ObjCheck Version 3.0 by MapInfo and any reported errors were all corrected. A second check included data being translated into ArcInfo using MapInfo export utility Arclink Version 3.2 and the resulting coverage was checked for logical consistency within ArcInfo. All errors due to differences between MapInfo and ArcInfo were corrected on the original MapInfo data Spatial analysis is complete. Taxonomic attributes were generalized to include the town and habitat in which the majority of the habitat falls. These names were compared with the names maintained in the state's municipal boundary coverage and on the paper narrative document records for each habitat.
